This course provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel arrive.

Participants who successfully complete the lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.

Prerequisites Include:

• Minimum age: 15 years (by the last day of the class)
• Swim 300 yards continuously
• Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
• Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder.

All lifeguarding classes are taught via blended learning, and you will need to complete the blended portion prior to taking the in-person class. Please bring or be able to show your instructor your completion of the blended learning on the first day of the class.

There are problems with modules saving on the phone. 

Use a computer and make sure the module saves after completing each module

Note the r.24 expires after 90 days, do not take blended learning more than 90 days before the scheduled class.

Lifeguarding review classes are designed to help you update your skills while

also extending your certification for another two years. These courses are for

those whose certification is still valid (or within 30 days of expiring) while

allowing you to continue to work without a lapse in verification. Example:

Certification expires April 1st 2026, you must take a lifeguard recertification

course by May 1st 2026.

Cost: $135

A CPSO certification provides pool professionals the knowledge on how to properly

maintain their pools in accordance with state regulations and industry standards.

Prerequisites Include: 

• You must be 16 years old by the last day of class to participate in the course.
• The course completion certificate is valid for 3 years.
• You must attend all class dates, and pass the test to gain certification.

County Prerequisites:

• Montgomery County: requires you to be at least 17 years old to apply for CPSO license.
• Prince Georges County: requires you to be at least 16 years old to apply for CPSO license.
